This can be corrected by using the node tool. Casey Roche Last updated FebruInkscape is a free vector-based editing program that has many useful functions. This might not be very accurate â notice there are a few rounded corners where they should be sharp. If there is a bitmap included in the group of shapes, I would first trace a path with a thick stroke around the bitmap to have a smooth, uniformly colored edge to trace on before doing the bucket fill. While the main features of the program donât deal with raster-based images, there are helpful processes you can use on raster images, such as the bitmap trace feature. Currently Inkscape employs the Potrace bitmap tracing engine ( ) by Peter Selinger. Casey Roche Last updated FebruInkscape is a free vector-based editing program that has many useful functions. These short notes should help you become acquainted with how it works. You can now move the border to the back of the group of shapes, color the stroke or increase its thickness, or give it a fill. One of the features in Inkscape is a tool for tracing a bitmap image into a element for your SVG drawing. The newly created object will overlap the old one, so just drag one of them to the side to gaze upon the result. ![]() Have your bitmap selected, choose your tracing metod and press OK. ![]() Just remove the outer shape by selecting the outer shape's nodes with the node tool then deleting them: Under Path, select Trace Bitmap (3 from the top). The resulting bucket fill will also have a border on the edge of your colored box. Click with the bucket fill tool between your box and the group of shapes Sometimes if the traced bitmap and the imported image are the same colour. (Also set the stroke to something large, say 6 pixels and no fill so you can clearly see the result). Delete the imported image to leave the traced bitmap. Next, select the bucket fill tool and set its threshold to 10 or more, so you'll have a smooth fill. First draw a colored box (to constrain the bucket fill) around the shapes, select the box and zoom to selection. The quickest solution I can think of to trace a path around a clump of shapes is by using the bucket fill tool.
